Rolling bench systems offer a multitude of advantages when compared to fixed table systems and/or growing on the ground.

Efficient handling of different groups of plants with different growing conditions, by working with individual containers that can be moved and tracked throughout the plant grow cycle;
Optimal space usage to help the grower reach and surpass his targeted output;
Gives the grower the possibility for multi-level (vertical farming) growing solutions for an unparalleled space usage efficiency;
Better working climate, and a much improved airflow within the greenhouse, especially underneath the benches, compared to crops grown at ground level;
More efficient plant irrigation with reduced labour costs;
Better control over the quality of the crop due to better sanitation: getting the plants off the floor decreases the probability of crop contamination;
Rolling bench greenhouses allow for better organised work areas (potting, spacing, harvesting, packing, etc.) and always lead to more efficient working conditions;

The foundation of our design was the desire to actually make a sustainable vertical farming system, and this both from an environmental point of view as well as from a financial point of view.
To do this we designed the Greencube steel structure with standardized components used for pallet storage systems and iCube systems.
Next, when it came time to design the automation equipment we continued focusing on standardization.
By using only 3D-Carrier's that can move throughout the entire Greencube and Vertical Transporters (VT) for movement between layers we managed to keep the logistical design of the Greencube brilliantly simple.
Since the 3D-Carrier and the VT’s use only their own sensors, there’s no need for other sensors in the GreenCube.
The GreenCube is designed to make use of LED lighting as well as precise irrigation.

The 2D-Shuttle is a semi-autonomous vehicle that rides underneath the rolling benches, using the heating pipes as rails.
Using it’s grabbing mechanisms and sensors the 2D-Shuttle can move the individual rolling benches conforming to the transport tasks assigned by the grower using the Dat-A-Control Software.
The 2D-Shuttle can also switch rows independent of other machines.

The A-Track transport lines ensure bench movements between rows and connects the growing area to the work area.
Each individual A-Track Transport Line section is powered by just one drive unit, using two speeds: a fast one for normal bench movements and a slow one for precise positioning of the bench on the lifting frame.

n order to be able to move between rows, the 2D-Shuttle makes use of a X-Rail which usually spans the whole length of the growing area.
The X-Rail is designed using standardized parts, helping keep the initial deployment costs for the 2D-Shuttle system low.
